The history of medicine and medical ethics library (IUHMSP) contains more than 10,000 books from the 16th–20th centuries. Subject strengths include history of hospitals, medicine and medical ethics, psychiatry, public health, veterinary medicine, and neurosciences. A highlight of the collection is the Henry Stilling fond, containing rare and precious books, such as Avicenna’s Canon medicinae, and the works of Galen, Paraceslsus, Vesalius, and others. The Claude Verdan collection contains rare books on anatomy and surgery, while other special collections include those on veterinary medicine, plastic surgery, neurology, and psychiatry.
